Paid sick leave can reduce workplace injury rates

Posted on August 6th, 2012 No Comments

Researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have released a study that indicates workers who receive paid sick leave are less likely to suffer from workplace injuries than those who do not.

The study, published in the American Journal of Public Health, showed that workers who got paid sick days were up to 28 percent less likely to to suffer a workplace injury than those who are forced to choose between going to work sick or losing out on a day’s pay.

According to the study, not receiving sick leave increases a medical worker’s chance of injury by as much as 18 percent. Construction workers can face a 21 percent high chance of injury when they don’t get paid sick days.
