Random OSHA inspections help reduce workers’ comp costs

Posted on May 22nd, 2012 No Comments

A new study published in the journal Science has shown that when health and safety rules are enforced, it can save employee lives without costing employers their profits.

The study showed that companies who were subject to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) examinations were able to reduce the amount of injury claims they experienced by 9.4 percent without affecting their bottom line over the ten year span researchers examined.

Additionally, the companies that were subjected to these random inspections saved a great deal (26 percent) on workers’ compensation costs as compared to companies that were not inspected.
