Last month, a worker was killed in a tragic construction accident in Havelock after the backhoe he was operating flipped over on top of him.  The worker, 39-year old Donald Collins, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident occurred around 11:30 AM at the Budget Inn and Suites.

Initial investigations led officials to believe that one of the machine’s rear wheels had slid down into a drainage ditch causing it to flip over and throw Collins underneath it.  The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident.
