Employee killed when crushed by granite slab
A worker lost his life on Monday, July 25 during a workplace accident at the Raleigh, North Carolina-based natural stone, quartz, stainless steel, and porcelain sinks distributor Cosmos Granite & Marble. The accident occurred when he was hit by a 600-pound slab of granite that fell from a truck.
According to a spokesman for the North Carolina Department of Labor, on Tuesday, July 26, the employee was placing granite slabs onto a truck using a lifting device when the incident occurred. One slab was not properly positioned on the device and fell from it. When the worker tried to stop the slab, it landed on top of the worker and killed him.
In North Carolina, lawmakers are working toward regulations and policies that are designed to protect workers should they experience the misfortune of a workplace accident. The attorneys at Scudder & Hedrick, PLLC are excited to see progress being made, but we are saddened to hear of this tragedy. Our condolences are with the family and friends of the victim as they mourn their loss.
