Obama in contention with fellow Democrats over workers’ comp
United States President Barack Obama is advocating for a reduction in workers’ compensation benefits for federal employees, a move not backed by his fellow Democrats, according the Washington Post on May 31.
The Labor Department is calling for a one rate proposal – 70% for all – a move that would result in reduced benefits for future workers’ compensation recipients, although Democrats and their union allies are working against this move.
At present, injured workers with no dependents receive a compensation of two-thirds of their pre-injury wages and employees with dependents, who comprise 64% of the total number of recipients in the country, receive a 75% compensation level.
The politics of workers’ compensation result in a system that is often difficult to navigate without the help of an experienced attorney.
