Longer workers’ comp periods for those lacking job security

A series of reports issued on June 19 by the Cambridge, Massachusetts Workers Compensation Research Institute showed that workers with anxiety about continued employment experienced longer disability periods than those with assured job security, a Business Insurance article stated.

The study is based on interviews conducted in 2013 of 3,200 injured workers in Minnesota, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. The collected data found on average a four week increase in the disability period for those uncertain of job security. In its North Carolina report, WCRI stated that 20 percent of those worried about termination after filing a workers’ compensation claim usually encountered issues regarding the services they needed.
