Holland man charged with fraud for wrongfully claiming benefits
Richard Klaffka, 56, of Holland, North Carolina was charged with wire fraud, making false statements, and mail fraud. Klaffka received over $9,000 a month in tax-free benefits from two government agencies because of false claims.
Klaffka has been collecting the benefits since 2008 when he claimed disability with the Veterans Administration. He reported that he was confined to a wheelchair due to an injury that he obtained during his military service.
In addition to receiving benefits form the Veterans Association, Klaffka also received workers’ compensation payments from the U.S. Postal Service.
