Two die working in manhole
Last week, two workers were wrongfully killed in a construction accident at a site in Durham County. The two men worked for Triangle Grading and Paving Inc. out of Burlington.
According to the Durham County Sheriff’s Office’s reports, the workers were working in a manhole at a construction site on Leesville Road near U.S. 70. The two were fixing a pipe in the manhole. Coworkers at the site said they checked on them after 45 minutes and found both men unresponsive.
Fire and rescue officials attempted to ventilate the area and took air samples before they recovered the workers’ bodies. Medical examiners are still looking into the cause of death.
Both the Durham County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the two men’s deaths.
Our utmost sympathies go out to the victims’ family and friends.
